Associations between serum CA724 and HER2 overexpression among stage II-III resectable gastric cancer patients: an observational study

Abstract: ObjectivesAssociations between serum tumor biomarkers and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) overexpression among locally advanced gastric cancer patients were yet to be determined and therefore warranted investigation.ResultsA total of 318 patients were analyzed. The odds ratios of CA724 were 4.79 (95% CI 1.55–14.79) and 6.29 (1.40–28.19) in comparing the HER2 (2+/3+) and HER2 (3+) with the negative group, respectively (p < 0.05). A combination of the four biomarkers yielded slightly but not sign… Show more

“…It has been investigated as a prognostic indicator or a predictive factor in patients with gastric cancer 12 . CA 72-4 was shown to be expressed in GC and CRC and it was considered to be more specific and sensitive than other bio-markers 13 , 14 . However, a combined diagnosis based on the levels of CEA, CA 19-9 and CA 72-4 was able to considerably improve sensitivity without impairing specificity.…”

“…The lymph system was a common metastatic pathway of gastrointestinal cancer (Li et al, 2013). Chen et al (2016a) reported that serum CA724 might be associated with the overexpression of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). In some malignancies, HER2 was a targeted therapeutic marker.…”
