Atmospheric Corrosion Analysis and Rust Evolution Research of Q235 Carbon Steel at Different Exposure Stages in Chengdu Atmospheric Environment of China

Abstract: In order to effectively reduce and retard corrosion of the power transmission and transformation equipment in Chengdu power grid and to improve power supply reliability, Q235 carbon steel material which is the most widely used metal material in power grid was selected as the targeted research object in this article. Exposure experiments were performed in urban atmospheric environment of Chengdu city in the southwest region of China. The corrosion behavior of Q235 carbon steel material was investigated at diffe… Show more

“…Zhigao et al [51] worked on the atmospheric corrosion impacts on carbon steel (Q235) under varying exposure conditions such as volume and pH of rainfall, the concentration of sulfur (IV) oxide and chlorine, temperature, and relative humidity. It was observed that the exposure duration of the carbon steel to the atmospheric condition impacted the corrosion on the material.…”

“…Once the first-year corrosion rate provided by the supersom model is known, the long-term loss can be identified thanks to the optimised Equation (1). Table 6 shows the different values obtained by this optimisation method for each of the corrosivity categories.…”

“…The uncalcined Rust NPs show peaks at about 1033cm − 1 , which might be due to the lepidocrocite (ferric mineral) (Veneranda et al 2018).The peaks at about 903 and 799 cm − 1 might be due to the goethite (hydrated iron oxide) (S and A 1993). The absorption peak in the absorption band of uncalcined Rust at 1630 cm − 1 is the characteristic peak of -OH, indicating a large amount of crystal water in the corrosion products (Wang et al 2020). This peak almost disappears in the calcined Rust due to high-temperature calcination.…”
