Atomistic simulation of MgS polymorphs

Abstract: The hydrostatic pressure-induced transition phase of MgS from the zinc-blende structure (B3) to the rock-salt structure (B1) is investigated using the quasi-harmonic Debye model. It is found that the transition pressure from the B3 to B1 phases is at 2.908 GPa according to the usual condition of equal enthalpy. Through the quasi-harmonic Debye model, the dependences of the relative volume V/V 0 , thermal expansion parameter ratio ða À a 0 Þ=a 0 , bulk modulus B, Debye temperature Q, and heat capacity C V on th… Show more

“…The shape of the calculated Cv curve seems to be typical for III-V previous results. [40][41][42]62] This trend supports our predictive results. Figure 9 shows the variations of entropy with temperature for MgS, MgSe, and MgTe.…”

“…The thermodynamic properties of YSb in both B1 and B2 phases are obtained using the quasi-harmonic Debye model [17], with which we have successfully studied ZrC [20], NiAl [21], TiAl [22], PtN 2 [23], ZrB 2 [24], MgTe [25], MgSe [26], and MgS [27] alloys. Using the equality of Gibbs free energy, the phase transition pressures P t of YSb (B1 to B2) are obtained as 30, 28.9, and 27.9 GPa at 500, 1000, and 1500 K, respectively, when we considered the temperature effect.…”
