Atopic dermatitis; Etio-pathogenesis, An overview

Abstract: Atopic dermatitis is a well-recognized clinical entity, several facets of which continue to be mystified. Accordingly, its etio-pathogenesis is largely elusive. It appears to be an outcome of interplay of several undertones, namely: genetics, maternal factor and inheritance, pregnancy/intrauterine, environmental factors, immune dysregulation, immuno-globulins, role of diet, and infection. Besides, recent innovative breakthroughs consisting of nutritional supplementation, the highlights of which were considered… Show more

“…Topical Therapy, Evolving Scenario (66)(67)(68)(69)(70)(71)(72)(73)(74)(75)(76) Although, several treatment options are in vogue, its treatment continues to loom large, because its etio-pathogenesis is largely seem to be enigmatic (66,67) nevertheless, the endeavors to unfold it are relentlessly continuing. The advent of stratum corneum (66,68), the impeccable skin barrier has taken the central stage.…”

“…Accordingly, the adult-onset AD was divided into intrinsic/nonallergic (non-I.e.-mediated) [3] type of atopic dermatitis (constitutional dermatitis) and extrinsic/allergic (Figure 2) (I.e.associated) [4,5] type, the outline of which are defined in the adjoining table 1. Its etio-pathogenesis is largely elusive [6], and a subject matter of continuing dialogue Currently, the turbulence in the functions of stratum corneum [7][8][9] the skin barrier (Figure 3), are being incriminated through genetically determined risk factors along-with the immune system dysfunction [10]. The concomitance of atopic dermatitis in immuno-compromised/susceptible genetic and metabolic disorders might re-enforce the preceding observations.…”
