“…Based on the data from all 313 students, the rate for the number of students who made an attempt and who also received medical help was 110 attempts per 15‐ to 19‐year‐old suicides in Kansas. Tuckman and Connon (1962) found a rate of 120 to 1, and Jacobziner (1965) found a rate of 100 to 1. Jacobziner believes that his 100‐to‐1 ratio, while still an underestimate, is closer to the true population rate than his earlier published and often cited 50‐to‐1 ratio (1960).…”
