Abstract:Austropeirates gen. nov. and its type species, A. maculipes sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Peiratinae) are described based on macropterous male and micropterous female individuals from Australia and compared with related taxa within the subfamily Peiratinae. Peirates castaneipennis Reuter, 1887, so far known to occur in New Caledonia, is recorded from several localities in Australia: as the only representative of the genus Peirates Serville, 1831.
