Autoinflammatory syndromes

Abstract: Summary Autoinflammatory syndromes are a steadily growing group of inflammatory diseases caused by abnormal regulations of the innate immune system. The clinical presentation is multifaceted, but recurrent fever, skin involvement, joint inflammation and other systemic symptoms of inflammation are characteristic. In contrast to classic autoimmune diseases, autoantibodies or specific T cells are not involved in the pathogenesis. In fact, innate immunity plays the most important role in autoinflammation. While ac… Show more

“…This assumption is based on the fact that in syndromal forms of PG, mutations have been found in genes coding for proteins of the inflammasome [8]. This pathway is also seen in other autoinflammatory diseases and syndromes [12]. In addition to overactivation of innate immunity, there is evidence of an antigen‐driven process.…”

“…Cytokines, such as TNFα, IL-1β, and IL-6, are involved in processes modulated by their delivery in extracellular vesicles 9,19,20 www.nature.com/scientificreports/ inflammasomes. Activation of the inflammasome leads to the cleavage of pro-interleukin (IL)-1β and the secretion of active IL-1β 21 . In addition, NF-κB and TNFα signaling are also activated in certain autoinflammatory diseases 19 .…”

“…Its excellency and wide-spread use are attributed to the absence of radiation, portability, dynamic examination, and low cost [2]. Numerous diseases overlap both dermatology and rheumatology and many can lead to arthritis of one or more joints [3][4][5]. One of the most frequent is psoriatic arthritis (PsA), occurring in about 30 % of psoriasis patients [6] with prevalence rates of 1.8-2.1 and 2.1-2.5 per 100,000 individuals, respectively [7].…”
