Automated Stacker Cranes: A Two-Step Storage Reallocation Process for Enhanced Service Efficiency

Abstract: Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) play a key role in improving the performance of automated manufacturing systems, warehouses, and distribution centers. In the modern manufacturing industry, the term (AS/RS) refers to various methods under computer control for storing and retrieving loads automatically from defined storage locations. Using an (AS/RS) is not considered a value-added activity. Therefore, the longer (AS/RS) travels, the more expensive the warehousing process becomes. This paper pres… Show more

“…Then, simulation was used to validate the idea. A similar study is the one by Salah et al [6], who investigated a two-step method to increase the throughput and to decrease the service time per order when the I/O station is on the point (0, 0). The proposed idea by Salah et al [6] needs, however, more investigation about the system configurations to further increase the throughput.…”

The proposed idea by Salah et al [6] needs, however, more investigation about the system configurations to further increase the throughput. Therefore, this study further investigates the two-step method in the case where the I/O station is under the middle of the storage rack and compares the results for the two proposed positions of the I/O station.…”

“…Another investigation of material flow is the flow in distribution centers, which is the focus of this study. There are several ways to enhance the efficiency of distribution centers and the AS/RS in them [12]. At first, the location of the distribution center can be investigated [13].…”
