Automatic energy-aware performance analysis of Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract: Abstract-We present a framework to automatically evaluate the performance of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) in terms of different kinds of metrics, such as throughput and energy consumption. We use a probabilistic process calculus to model MANETs; we translate process terms into Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) and use the probabilistic model checker PRISM to automatically evaluate the network performance. We present a case study consisting of a network which uses flooding for communicating, and we analyse ho… Show more

“…The formulation and analysis of the connectivity and energy consumption is a challenging research topic in MANET. This can lead to design an automatic tool, as described in [ 21 ]. Also, a design level formal model is described in [ 22 , 23 ] to avoid the collisions and interference.…”

“…Due to the probabilistic behaviour of algorithms (or protocols) used in any of the layers of wireless sensor networks stack, probabilistic model checking and Markov chains have been used to study and analyse a wide range of them. For instance, in Gallina et al (2012), a framework to automatically evaluate the performance of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks in terms of different kinds of metrics, such as throughput and energy consumption, is presented. Using a probabilistic process calculus called PEBUM, Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) and PRISM, they evaluate the network performance in terms of time and energy costs.…”
