Automated systems are becoming common in private, public and professional life. Given their increasing ubiquity and availability to a growing diversity of users, it is important to explore requirements, design principles, and user experience factors across application sectors and scientific disciplines. This workshop provides a forum for researchers and practitioners active in the field of "Automation Experience". In a keynote talk, a poster madness, discussions, and hands-on sessions, the participants will explore and discuss specific opportunities and challenges related to future forms of engagement with an increasing number of automated entities (automations). To this end, the focus topics for the workshop comprise (1) novel ways for monitoring of and intervening with increasingly intelligent agents and artifacts, (2) collaborative interaction to support teaming up and cooperation among humans and automations, and (3) orchestration and delegation of increasingly complex tasks to smart spaces. The results of the workshop are a set of research ideas and drafts of joint research initiatives to drive further automation experience research in a collaborative and interdisciplinary manner. Introducing robots in the workplace entails new practices and configurations at the individual, organizational, and social levels. Prior work has focused on how robots may have an immediate effect on individual employees or tasks rather than collectively influencing employees or the organizations they work for gradually over time. By drawing on fourteen in-situ interviews with six collaborative robot (cobot) operators at a Danish manufacturing company, this paper investigates how cobots in the manufacturing context may engage broader interactions beyond the robot-operator interaction. Our focus includes spatial configurations centering around the cobots, social interactions between employees, and information flow through, within, and outside the production cells. Introducing and implementing cobots in the workplace has social dynamics at its core, which we explore in depth. This paper argues that the design of cobots and the environment around them should accommodate the possibility of more complicated social and organizational changes brought about by these robots. Lastly, we discuss research and design implications for the future of workplaces involving robots.

Well-being is a complex phenomenon that is deeply depends on the individuals themselves and includes subjective perception of the past, present and future experiences. Connecting with work adds a concrete dimension to that wellbeing that makes it possible to consider designing for well-being and assessing it. One key element related to well-being is engagement at work and gameful design is a mean to increase engagement. This position paper builds on the evolution of the field of HCI over the years to identify means of addressing wellbeing through engagement. We describe the concepts related to Usability and how they evolved towards User Experience to encompass more complex (related to self) elements. We show how previous work in the field has connected these two major properties (using tasks descriptions) and how it might be possible to extend further embracing human needs and motivation theory. A concrete example is given in the context of interaction with a digital clock. Even though this example is simple, it conveys the concerns and highlights possible directions towards solutions.
