The use of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in transportation at signalized intersections is proposed to improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability. The discussion shall thus focus more on the impacts of different AV driving behaviors to some key transportation metrics solely at signalized intersections. Among the parameters considered are travel time, queue length, delay, and speed. This is clear from one such holistic study that Cautious AV behavior would reduce accidents, but on the other way around, it might increase traffic delays and lead to congestion at signalized junctions. Aggressive AVs will improve the flow of traffic but face problems in safety in this kind of set-up. Normal AV operation A balanced approach that offers intermediary levels of travel time and safety. The review further investigates the environmental effects of various driving patterns within signalized intersections, where it notes that there are noticeable differences in emissions and fuel consumed if the driving behavior is taken into consideration. It goes further into the implications for traffic management and control systems, noting challenges and opportunities while integrating AVs into existing infrastructure and spotlighting at signalized intersections. Paramount to the review are the considerations of safety, regulatory frameworks, and mitigating strategies relevant to AV behavior at signalized intersections. In so doing, this review seeks to inform future research and policy decisions with a nuanced understanding of how various AV driving behaviors affect signalized intersection performance, seeking to optimize AV benefits while mitigating possible risks at critical traffic junctures.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming integral to human life, and the successful wide-scale uptake of autonomous and automated vehicles (AVs) will depend upon people's willingness to adopt and accept AI-based technology and its choices. A person's state of mind, a fundamental belief evolving out of an individual's character, personal choices, intrinsic motivation, and general way of life forming perceptions about how society should be governed, influences AVs perception. The state of mind includes perceptions about governance of autonomous vehicles' artificial intelligence (AVAI) and thus has an impact on a person's willingness to adopt and use AVs. However, one determinant of whether AVAI should be driven by society's ethics or the driver's morals, a “state of mind” variable, has not been studied. We asked 1,473 student, staff, and employee respondents at a university campus whether they prefer an AVAI learn their owners own personal morals (one's own principles) or adopt societal ethics (codes of conduct provided by an external source). Respondents were almost evenly split between whether AVAI should rely on ethics (45.6%) or morals (54.4%). Personal morals and societal ethics are not necessarily distinct and different. Sometimes both overlap and discrepancies are settled in court. However, with an AVAI these decision algorithms must be preprogrammed and the fundamental difference thus is whether an AI should learn from the individual driver (this is the status quo on how we drive today) or from society incorporating millions of drivers' choices. Both are bounded by law. Regardless, to successfully govern artificial intelligence in cities, policy-makers must thus bridge the deep divide between individuals who choose morals over ethics and vice versa.

The emergence of autonomous driving represents a pivotal milestone in the evolution of the transportation system, integrating seamlessly into the daily lives of individuals due to its array of advantages over conventional vehicles. However, selfdriving cars pose numerous challenges contributing to accidents and injuries annually. This paper aims to comprehensively examine the limitations inherent in autonomous driving and their consequential impact on accidents and collisions. Using data from the DMV, NMVCCS, and NHTSA, the paper reveals the key factors behind self-driving car accidents. It delves into prevalent limitations faced by self-driving cars, encompassing issues like adverse weather conditions, susceptibility to hacking, data security concerns, technological efficacy, testing and validation intricacies, information handling, and connectivity glitches. By meticulously analyzing reported accidents involving self-driving cars during the period spanning 2019 to 2022, the research evaluates statistical data pertaining to fatalities and injuries across diverse accident classifications. Additionally, the paper delves into the ethical and regulatory dimensions associated with autonomous driving, accentuating the legal complexities that arise from accidents involving self-driving vehicles. This review assists researchers and professionals by identifying current autonomous driving limitations and offering insights for safer adoption. Addressing these limitations through research can transform transportation systems for the better.
