Average cross section measurement for 162Er(γ,n) reaction compared with theoretical calculations using TALYS

Abstract: Bremsstrahlung photon beam delivered by a linear electron accelerator has been used to experimentally determine the near threshold photonuclear cross section data of nuclides. For the first time, (γ,n) cross section data was obtained for the astrophysical important nucleus 162Er. Moreover, theoretical calculations have been applied using the TALYS 1.6 code. The effect of the gamma ray strength function on the cross section calculations has been studied. A satisfactorily reproduction of the available experiment… Show more

“…However, using an "off-the-shelf" medical linear acclerator, originally designed for clinical operation and repurposing it for nuclear physics experiments, is a novel idea. We have successfully explored it in this work in light of a pioneering photoactivation study [8] and of more recent photoneutron average cross section measurements [9][10][11][12], all carried at clinical electron linacs, demonstrating that the excellent stability and reproducibility of the beam of this type are good pre-requisites for photonuclear experiments.…”

“…Ölçümlerde hızlı pozitron demetlerinin anhilasyonundan elde edilen monoenerjetik foton demetleri radyasyon kaynağı olarak kullanılmıştır. Daha sonra, 55 Mn iztopunun fotonükleer tesir kesitleri 162 Er izotopunun fotonükleer reaksiyon tesir kesiti ölçümlerinde kullanılmak üzere, gama ışınım şiddet fonksiyonları kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir [4].…”
