Average Quantifying the snowmelt dominant river erosion in Afghanistan between 2004-2020

Abstract: <p>Flooding of rivers is one of the major causes of soil erosion leading to significant changes in the geomorphological environment. Particularly, in countries such as Afghanistan, where the transboundary are designated according to the Amu River shorelines, are significantly affected by riverbank erosions. Amu River is driven by streamflow from the Pir Pranjal ranges of Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Numerical analysis of the river flow dynamics in such regions is subject to the scarce data availab… Show more

“…The declining worldwide availability of water resources has emerged as a central concern, particularly in the planning and execution of projects geared towards sustainable development, with a speci c focus on water sectors (Dungumaro and Madulu, 2003;UN, 2020). In this context, there is an increasing emphasis on adopting e cient water resource management techniques and implementing methodologies to estimate and control erosion and oods (Cosgrove and Loucks, 2015;Mahmoodzada et al, 2023). The signi cance of these initiatives is underscored by the growing awareness of the interconnectedness of water resources with broader environmental and climatic conditions (Hirji and Davis, 2009).…”

“…The purpose of this study is to quantify the riverbank erosion in Kaldar District, Balkh Province of Afghanistan. For the investigation, we utilized a combination of ground station data available from the Afghanistan side and ERA5 Reanalysis data [33]. A multivariate regression model is developed using the investigated hydrological parameters from the ERA5 Reanalysis data to estimate the overall river discharge for the entire watershed shared by northern Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.…”
