This paper proposes a method to optimize electrode coating using the desirability function for such stick electrode quality assessment criteria as stable arcing while ensuring sustainable restarting of the arc. Based on the mathematical apparatus of the experiment design theory, we derived a regression equation that describes the joint effect of electrode coating components on the arcing and arc restarting stability when using coated electrodes for welding. We have also analyzed the mathematical apparatus for experimental data processing for optimizing based on a generalized criterion. This method enables an assessment of responses that differ in their physical meaning and dimension. This experience helped optimize the electrode coating.
