Bacillus oceanisediminis sp. nov., isolated from marine sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-positive, spore-forming, rod-shaped and aerobic bacterium was isolated from a sediment sample from the South Sea in China. The isolate, designated H2 T , grew at 4-45 6C (optimum 37 6C) and pH 6-10 (optimum pH 7.0). The cell-wall peptidoglycan contained mesodiaminopimelic acid. The major isoprenoid quinone was MK-7 and the polar lipids consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and an unknown aminophospholipid. The major fatty acid was iso-C 15 : 0 . The ge… Show more

“…The majority of the genera and species recovered in this study were from marsh sediments and have previously been described in saline environments except B. safensis, Bacillus thioparans and B. simplex (Ventosa et al, 1998;Okamoto et al, 2001;Yoon et al, 2001;2003;Chookietwattana, 2003;Sánchez-Porro et al, 2003;Borsodi et al, 2005;Fan et al, 2006;Pérez-Ibarra et al, 2007;Ventosa et al, 2008;Parvathi et al, 2009;Sasaki et al, 2009;Zhang et al, 2010;Bassey and Grigson, 2011). This finding extends our knowledge of the bacterial diversity in saline environments and indicates that the groups obtained, including potential new species, are well adapted.…”

“…T was first isolated from sediment of the South Sea in China (11) and was found to be most closely related to Bacillus firmus (6) and Bacillus infantis (4) by 16S rRNA gene analysis. Recently, the Gram-negative Paenibacillus oceanisediminis sp.…”

“…The polar lipid analysis showed the predominance of phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol and diphosphatidylglycerol (Fig. 2), which are characteristic of the genus Bacillus (Kämpfer et al, 2006;Vaishampayan et al, 2010;Zhang et al, 2010). The unidentified phospholipids found in strain DS22…”
