Backbone-network reconfiguration for power system restoration using genetic algorithm and expert system

Abstract: During the last few years many blackouts have been experienced throughout the world. It seems that modern power systems are more exposed to major blackouts. This raises the necessity of having an obvious restoration plan to rebuild the power system as soon as possible. This problem is characterized by a large solution space which can be constrained with expert knowledge. This paper describes a new power system restoration algorithm jointly using Genetic Algorithms (GA) and Expert systems (ES). GA's are used to… Show more

“…Power restoration schemes help distribution system operators to effectively restore power automatically or semi‐automatically during emergency conditions such as faults or outages, through temporary feeder reconfiguration [1]. One of the critical aims of these schemes is to ensure that operational and engineering constraints are not violated [2, 3]. In literature many methods are proposed for doing power restoration analysis.…”

“…Decision-making optimization, as the key content of restoration plan development, plays an important role for the safety and rapid restoration of a power system. At present, experts have conducted lots of research for the decision-making optimization on power system skeleton restoration, and proposed many methods, including the method based on genetic algorithm [5], neural network [6], particle swarm optimization [7], expert system [8], case based reasoning [9] and the method based on node importance degree [10]. Generally, safety factors, such as node voltage, frequency and the power flow of transmission line are treated as constraints during the development of backbone network or restoration order.…”
