Balancing Form-Giving and Planning in Design for Health

Abstract

How often have we heard the quote attributed to Sullivan (1896), "Form follows function"? Viollet-le-Duc ( 2023) is described as having earlier said, "a rationally designed structure may not necessarily be beautiful, but no building can be beautiful that does not have a rationally designed structure." I have often told my design students that architecture involves both artistic formgiving and rational planning. Architecture without effective and functional planning is simply sculpture.Architecture without effective and functional planning is simply sculpture.
