Band‐pass filter with broad‐side coupled triple split‐ring resonator using left‐handed metamaterial

Abstract: This article presents a new bandpass filter (BPF) with a broad‐side coupled triple split‐ring resonator (T‐SRR) using left‐handed metamaterial on a Teflon substrate. Then, by replacing the series quarter‐wavelength connecting lines with the equivalent T‐shaped line, a compact BPF with a second harmonic rejection can be obtained. These filters show insertion losses of 1.2 and 0.75 dB, and return losses of 17.8 and 18.2 dB at the central frequency of 10 GHz, respectively. The experimental result for the second ha… Show more

“…Split‐ring resonator (SRR) is an attractive artificially made structure based on metamaterials usually made by two rectangular or circular rings in their conventional form for making left‐hand qualification where the gaps make capacitance and strips play the inductance rule . In addition, recently various shapes of these types (SRR) of metamaterial have been used for the different application, such as making notch frequency in UWB antennas, miniaturization of the waveguides, or microstrip filters and achieving CP in slot antennas . It is a prominent technique for slot antennas making great interest due to their advantages, such as simple structure, small size, and low cost.…”

“…However, recently various shapes of these metamaterials have been used for making a frequency notched in UWB antenna with circular and rectangular slots in the monopole antenna or feed line [8,9], miniaturization of the waveguide for filter designing [10,11] or microstrip band-pass filter (BPF) with a broad-side coupled triple split-ring resonator (T-SRR) [12], and SRR and Defected Ground Structure (DGS) are combined in one structure [13].…”

“…Split-ring resonators (SRRs) are artificial structures, in which the relative magnetic susceptibility can become negative under certain conditions [1]. SRRs are used for the creation of artificial media with the negative [2] (the so-called metamaterials) and as elements in various filters [3,4] and aerials [5,6]. Their popularity can be explained by the relative simplicity of their construction and the presence of materials that are used for their fabrication.…”
