Bariatric surgery and implications for stoma care

Abstract: In the UK, 62% of the population are now described as being either overweight or obese. People with weight-management issues have increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer, including bowel cancer. Following the initial National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidance in 2006, revised in 2014, health professionals have a more proactive role in identifying people with weight-management issues and supporting them to achieve a weight that helps reduce their health risks.
