Background To be able to help and save lives, laypersons are recommended to undergo first aid trainings. The aim of this review was to explore the variety of the elements of the measuring systems to assess the effects of first aid trainings on different aspects of first aid skills including practical skills, knowledge, and emotional perspectives. Methods This systematic literature review used Scopus and PubMed databases and searched for studies published between January, 2000, and December, 2020. Out of 2,162 studies meeting the search criteria, 15 studies with quantitative and repeatable evaluation methods to assess first aid skills after first aid training for adults were included in the final analysis. Results Practical skills, especially on the ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and to use an automated external defibrillator, were the most studied first aid skills after first aid training. This evaluation was based on several standardized measurements and assessed often with the help of a combination of resuscitation manikin and observer. Evaluation methods of performance in other emergency situations are not well standardized. Questionnaires used to assess knowledge of first aid, though seemingly based on guidelines, were also not standardized, either. Emotional aspects of first aid (willingness or self-confidence) were evaluated by highly simplified questionnaires, and answers were graded by five-point Likert scale. Conclusion According to our review, the focus of evaluation methods after first aid training has been on practical skills and especially on CPR. Though the evaluation of first-aid knowledge seems to be straightforward, it is not performed systematically. Evaluation methods for emotional aspects are highly simplified. Overall, standardized measurements and evaluation methods to assess all aspects of first aid skills are needed.

Objectives: To gauge/evaluate the knowledge and skill of BLS trained and untrained teaching faculty members at postgraduate tertiary care training institute Materials and Methods: A prevalidated questionnaire comprising of 44 questions was distributed among teaching faculty of three big tertiary care, post-graduate institutes. The questions were focused on evaluating the knowledge and awareness of the participants. Total number of the participants was 345 Statistical Analysis: Data was entered and analyzed by using SPSS (version 23.0). Results: The mean knowledge score related to basic life support was 4.57±1.81 out of total 12 points and the mean score for level of awareness regarding BLS was 34.5 %. Moreover, only 28.15% were aware of the current AHA guidelines Conclusion: The low level of knowledge and awareness regarding BLS in the health care workers depicts that regular BLS hands-on- workshops should be conducted and should be a part of mandatory training.

The research objective was to analyze the effect of providing material about Basic Life Support (BLS) on increasing the knowledge of coaches. Methods: This study was an experimental study with one group pretest and posttest design. Subjects of the study were 10 male coaches from Aceh Province, aged 22-32 years, from 5 different types of sport, namely Rugby, athletics, Taekwondo, Archery, and Karate. Data analysis used descriptive analysis, chi-square (p<0.05), and paired sample t-test (p<0.05). The results showed that the average age was 26.7 years. 30% of the subjects had a high school degree, 50% of the subjects had undergraduate degree, and 20% of the subjects had a Master degree. The level of coach's knowledge about BLS was increased by 40.37% after receiving material about BLS. The knowledge level of the coaches was different before and after receiving education about BLS (56.67 and 79.55; p = 0.001). It was also related to the level of education (x² = 0.007*). Conclusions: The level of the coach's knowledge about BLS is related to education level. The coaches with undergraduate degree had better knowledge than others. The study concludes that providing BLS materials could effectively improve the knowledge level of the coaches from Aceh province.
