H À stripping injection into the Fermilab recycler ring, combined with a beam phase painting technique, has been considered. The multiparticle three-dimensional beam dynamics with space charge has been studied numerically, using STRUCT and ORBIT codes, for different painting scenarios. In order to achieve a uniform (quasi-KV) phase-space distribution and to reduce the foil heating, the following parameters were investigated: the number of turns, strengths and temporal forms of kicker magnets, and foil geometry. Performance of the stripping foil is a crucial parameter of the whole injection scheme, so that the latter has been designed to minimize the hit number on the foil. The temperature regime has been evaluated both semianalytically and numerically using Monte Carlo codes MARS and MCNPX, with radiation cooling and transport of electrons taken into account. That all results agreed well proves the consistency of the models. It has been shown that the stripping foil can survive during injection with the parameters chosen for Project X at Fermilab.

A calculational approach is described to study beam induced radiation effects in detector and storage ring components at high-energy high-luminosity + ? colliders. The details of the corresponding physics process simulations used in the MARS code are given. Contributions of electromagnetic showers, synchrotron radiation, hadrons and daughter muons to the background rates in a generic detector for a 2 2 TeV + ? collider are investigated. Four configurations of the inner triplet and a detector are examined for two sources: muon decays and beam halo interactions in the lattice elements. The beam induced power density in superconducting magnets is calculated and ways to reduce it are proposed. FIGURE 1. Schematic of muon collider inner triplet and detector [4] (Configuration 1). Collimation of proton and antiproton beams in the Tevatron collider is required to protect CDF and D0 detectors and minimize their background rates, to keep irradiation of superconducting magnets under control, to maintain long-term operational reliability, and to reduce the impact of beam-induced radiation on the environment. In this article we briefly describe the design, practical implementation and performance of the collider collimation system, methods to control transverse and longitudinal beam halo and two novel collimation techniques tested in the Tevatron.
