Behaviour of RC Beams with Strengthened Web Openings under Vertical Loads

Abstract: This study aims to investigate experimentally the behavior of self-compacting reinforced concrete beams with in-plane loaded openings strengthened with different techniques in the opening zone. The experimental program consists of testing five specimens with a rectangular opening at the midspan, one of the beams serves as a control beam (without strengthening), and four beams are strengthened at the opening zone with several methods including steel fibers, semi-rhombus crossed bars, jacketing with steel plates… Show more

“…2012 [35] studied theoretically, the elastic response for slender rectangular pocket and spandrel beams. Hamad and Shakir, 2021 [36], studied experimentally the behavior of self-compacting reinforced concrete beams with in-plane loaded openings that were strengthened by several techniques. The recorded enhancement in capacity ranged in 8-21%.…”

“…Many studies proved that the incorporation of steel fibers in concrete resulted in significant improvement in the general performance of the structural members in terms of reducing rate of cracking and deformation [8]. Consequently, steel fibers have been included in beams, slab, corbel, around web openings, dapped end [9][10][11][12]. In deep beam, steel fiber have been used to improve the shear strength [13][14].…”
