Benchmarking supplier external risk factors in electronic equipment industry supply chains

Abstract: Purpose The global electronic equipment industry has evolved into one of the most innovative technology-based business sectors to transpire in the last three decades. Much of its success has been attributed to effective supply chain management. The purpose of this paper is to provide an examination of external risk factors associated with the industry’s key suppliers through the creation of Bayesian networks which can be used to benchmark external risks among these suppliers. Design/methodology/approach The … Show more

“…Several recent works have adopted the BN approach for SCR analysis, including Yuan et al (2012), Lockamy (2014Lockamy ( , 2019, Badurdeen et al (2014), Sharma and Sharma (2015), Garvey et al (2015), Sharma and Routroy (2016), Qazi et al (2017) and Cao et al (2019). Commonly, the BN structure is developed by either knowledge elicitation of experts or learning of dataset.…”

“…In the first decade of the 21st century, innovativeness was associated with the ability of a company to be open to new ideas and work on new solutions (Crawford & Di Benedetto, 2003), referring to a reputation for innovation as a permanent characteristic and not an episodic success (Im & Workman, 2004). In the meantime, the global electronic equipment industry has evolved into one of the most innovative technology‐based business sectors, and much of its success has been attributed to effective supply chain management (Lockamy, 2019). According to Mackelprang et al (2014) and Sancha et al (2015), the coordination and integration of activities across the supply chain can improve firm performance, innovation capacity and lead to a sustainable competitive advantage for its membership.…”

“…Some authors (Autant‐Bernard et al, 2010; Crawford & Di Benedetto, 2003; Im & Workman, 2004; Tang et al, 2013) discussed the components of organizational learning and its influence on a firm's innovativeness. Others discussed the tools to measure it (Ruvio et al, 2014; Sancha et al, 2015), and the benefits of knowledge exchange between companies (Bryan Jean et al, 2017; Lockamy, 2019).…”

“…However, the general classification of the electronics industry consists of manufacturers of electronic equipment, components, instruments, etc. for original equipment manufacturers (OEM) or equipment manufacturers, the end products developed from OEM find its application in analytical, electronic testing and measurement instruments, electronic components, connection devices, telecommunication devices, hardware devices and other miscellaneous types of equipment (Lockamy, 2019). The electronics industry is primarily concerned with the interlinking of technologies to obtain the desired product for its end users (Dedrick and Kraemer, 2008).…”
