Beneficial Roles of Cellulose Patch-Mediated Cell Therapy In Myocardial Infarction: A Preclinical Study

Abstract: Biologic scaffolds have become an attractive approach for repairing the infarcted myocardium and have been shown to facilitate constructive remodeling in injured tissues. This study aimed to investigate the possible utilization of bacterial cellulose membrane patch containing cocultured cells to limit the myocardium's post-infarction pathology. Myocardial infarction was induced by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery in 45 Wistar rats, and patches with or without cells were attached to the hea… Show more

“…All those effects were noted during systole, that is, as the muscle contract, thus they reflect the treatment's effect on the action of the muscle rather than its structure. These echocardiography results are in line with previous research focusing on other treatments such as ECM patch 25 and cellulose patch 34 …”

“…These echocardiography results are in line with previous research focusing on other treatments such as ECM patch 25 and cellulose patch. 34 Figure 4 depicts representative pairs of PV loops obtained from each of the experimental groups at the final time point. The untreated loops (Figure 4A,B) seem to be smaller, shifted to the right, and tend not to cross the x-axis, which is characteristic of weaker cardiac muscle.…”

“…Polysaccharide derivatives such as cellulose derivatives have attracted increasing attention due to their relative abundance and ability to maintain drug release. Rossana B Simeoni et al explored the possibility of using bacterial cellulose (BC) membrane patches containing co-cultured cells to limit postmyocardial infarction pathology (39,40). The results of the study leaded by Sahar S Abd-Elhalem et.al.…”

“…Biological substances or stem cells from other parts of the body are engrafted into the myocardium, in order for proliferation to occur. Bone marrow-derived cells to mesenchymal stromal cells to cellulose have been used to study cell therapy and determine its beneficial roles [3,30].…”
