Abstract. An epidermal inclusion cyst (EIC) of the breast is a rare, benign condition that may potentially be malignant. The present study conducted a systematic review of the literature in order to identify pathological hypotheses, clinical characteristics, and diagnostic and treatment options. A search for relevant studies was conducted through the Scopus, Embase and Medline databases during September 2014. The search term employed was ῾epidermal inclusion cyst breast᾽. Studies were selected if they contained adequate information regarding symptoms at presentation, diagnostic tools, pathology, characteristics, type of procedure performed and follow-up routines. A total of 35 papers describing 91 patients affected by EIC of the breast were identified. Following this, a total of 82 patients, including an additional case supplied from the present study, were selected for further analysis. EIC of the breast typically occurs during the fifth decade of life. A palpable mass of the breast was present in 65 (79%) patients. Ultrasonographic imaging was consistently utilized as a diagnostic tool in all the cases analyzed, whereas fine-needle aspiration cytology was used in 70% of the cases and mammography in 65%. No tumor recurrence was reported at a mean follow-up time of 53 months. The present study demonstrated that elliptical excision is the preferred treatment for EIC of the breast, with pathological analysis required to exclude malignancy.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a common primary childhood malignancy that rarely metastasizes to the breast. We report a patient with a primary sinonasal rhabdomyosarcoma metastasizing to the breast, with no distant spread. We describe the imaging appearance of rhabdomyosarcoma on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), particularly on diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) sequences. Rhabdomyosarcoma metastasis has a variable appearance on ultrasound and MRI, and may mimic common benign tumors. However, it appears hyperintense on DWI and produces a low value on the ADC, which may be more accurate for determining its malignant nature.

Σκοπός: Η εκτίμηση της διαγνωστικής αξίας της μαγνητικής μαστογραφίας και η σύγκριση με τη συμβατική μαστογραφία και την υπερηχοτομογραφία στις περιπτώσεις γυναικών με ύποπτες αλλοιώσεις του μαστού. Υλικό και Μέθοδος: Εκατό γυναίκες ηλικίας 34-83 ετών με 111 εστιακές βλάβες του μαστού εξετάστηκαν με μαστογραφία, υπερηχοτομογραφία και δυναμική μαγνητική μαστογραφία. Οι βλάβες σε κάθε διαγνωστική μέθοδο ταξινομήθηκαν σύμφωνα με το λεξικό BI-RADS του American College of Radiology. Ιστολογική μελέτη ήταν διαθέσιμη για όλες τις βλάβες μετά από βιοψία ή χειρουργική εξαίρεση αυτών. Αποτελέσματα: Η παθολογοανατομική εξέταση επιβεβαίωσε 73 κακοήθεις βλάβες και 38 καλοήθεις βλάβες. Η συμβατική μαστογραφία εκτίμησε πως 84/111 βλάβες ήταν κακοήθεις με 63 αληθώς θετικές, η υπερηχοτομογραφία εκτίμησε πως 92/111 βλάβες ήταν κακοήθεις με 63 αληθώς θετικές και η μαγνητική μαστογραφία εκτίμησε τις 83/111 βλάβες ως κακοήθεις με 70 αληθώς θετικές βλάβες. Η ευαισθησία και η ειδικότητα της μαγνητικής μαστογραφίας στη διάγνωση του καρκίνου ήταν 95,9% και 34,2%, της συμβατικής μαστογραφίας 81,8% και 38,2% και της υπερηχοτομογραφίας 86,3% και 76,3%. Η αρνητική προγνωστική αξία για την μαγνητική μαστογραφία ήταν 81,2%, για την υπερηχοτομογραφία 73,4% και για την μαστογραφία 48,2% για τις κακοήθειες. Συμπέρασμα: Η μαγνητική μαστογραφία έχει την υψηλότερη αρνητική προγνωστική αξία συγκριτικά με τη μαστογραφία και την υπερηχοτομογραφία στις περιπτώσεις αλλοιώσεων του μαστού ύποπτων για κακοήθεια. Ο συνδυασμός κριτηρίων μορφολογικών και σκιαγραφικού εμπλουτισμού μπορεί να βελτιώσει τη διαγνωστική ικανότητα της μαγνητικής μαστογραφίας στον χαρακτηρισμό των αλλοιώσεων του μαστού.
