Beta-adrenergic agonists increase lung liquid clearance in anesthetized sheep.

Abstract: We did experiments to determine whether beta-adrenergic agonists increase lung liquid clearance in anesthetized ventilated adult sheep and, if so, whether the increase is mediated by beta receptors and what mechanism is involved. We instilled 100 ml of autologous serum either alone or with a beta-adrenergic agonist (terbutaline, j0-5 M, or epinephrine, 5.5 X 10-6 M) into one lower lobe.
