Solute transport in porous media plays a central role in a variety of environmental processes. During their transport, solutes experience dispersion and mixing, two coupled but distinct processes (Ginn, 2018;Kitanidis, 1994). Dispersion controls the solute plume's spatial spreading, while mixing reduces the concentration variability within it (Dentz et al., 2011;Le Borgne et al., 2010). Solute mixing controls reaction rates in a range of processes when the typical reaction time is shorter than the typical mixing time (
