In my case the research project was intended to be a continuation of work in progress, and ended up as a central part of my life during a long period. This is not to say that all my life gravitated around it: on the contrary, it became part of my life and it was good that it happened that way. My PhD program was part of a very interesting period. I changed home twice -from Maputo to Gothenburg and back -and lived part of the time in a train and a ferryboat between Roskilde and Gothenburg. Annual field work trips to Mozambique were combined with consultancies that supplemented our family income. After returning to Maputo,...
