Objectives: The aim of this study was to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the literature on stem cell treatment for spinal cord injury to gain an intuitive understanding of how the field is progressing, discover topics of interest, and determine what development trends are emerging in this field.Background: Spinal cord injury and its complications often cause an enormous economic burden, and postinjury repair and treatment have always been challenging in clinical and scientific research. Stem cell therapy for spinal cord injury can prevent immune rejection and induce the release of neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory factors to reduce the production of stress-related proteins, reactive oxygen species, and inflammatory reactions.Methods: We analyzed the number and quality of publications in the field of stem cell therapy in spinal cord injury between 2018.01.01 and 2023.06.30 in the core collection database of Web of Science. CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used to sort and summarize these studies by country, institution, authors' publications, and collaborative networks. In addition, the research topics of interest were identified and summarized.Results: This study ultimately included 2,150 valid papers, with the number of publications showing a gradual upward trend. The country, institution, author and journal with the greatest number of publications and citations are China, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dai JW, and the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, respectively. The top three high-frequency keyword clusters were hereditary paraplegia, reactive astrocytes and tissue engineering.Conclusion: With the help of visual analysis, we identified general trends and research topics of interest in the field of spinal cord injury over the last 5 years. Our findings suggest that stem cell transplantation for spinal cord injury and exosome therapy may be a focus of future research. This study provides a foundation for future research on stem cell therapy as well as clinical efforts in this field.

Background: Spinal cord injury has a significant impact on patients’ physical and mental health, with cell death playing a key role in the pathology. Methods: The Web of Science Core Collection database was searched and screened according to inclusion criteria for publications between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2023. Bibliometric analysis was conducted using bibliomatrix R-package, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer software. Results: A total of 2309 publications were identified, with a stable growth in the first 13 years and accelerated growth in the past decade, indicating an increasing trend in this field. These publications on cell death after spinal cord injury originated from 251 countries/regions. China contributed the most publications, with funding support primarily from China, and Wenzhou Medical University in China being the leading institution with the highest number of publications. Salvatore Cuzzocrea was the most influential author. The research direction in this field after 2000 mainly focused on topics such as apoptosis, autophagy, mesenchymal stem cells, mammalian target of rapamycin pathway, ferroptosis, functional recovery, neuronal regeneration, and NOD-like receptor protein 3.Current hot topics and future research trends revolve around extracellular vesicles including exosomes, extracellular vesicle-mediated mesenchymal stem cells, microRNA, autophagy, NOD-like receptor protein 3 inflammasome-mediated cell pyroptosis, and mechanisms of glial scar formation. Conclusion: Publications in this field have grown rapidly in the past 2 decades and are expected to keep increasing. Current hot topics include mesenchymal stem cells, apoptosis, autophagy, and ferroptosis. Future research will focus on extracellular vesicle-mediated mesenchymal stem cells, autophagy, inflammasome-mediated cell pyroptosis, and glial scar formation.

Bibliometric analysis of dental adhesives: research status and frontier development

Objective: A visual analysis of the literature in the field of dental adhesives is conducted in order to explore the current state of research, cutting-edge areas of interest, and future development trends in this domain.Methods: English literature related to dental adhesives published between 2000 and 2023 was searched in the Web of Science Core Collection database. The retrieved results were then imported into VOSviewer and CiteSpace software in plain text format. Various data, such as journal names, authors, institutions, countries, and keywords, were extracted for further bibliometric analysis.Results: A total of 19,403 publications were retrieved, featuring 42,365 authors, 7,359 institutions, 121 countries, and 1,523 journals. The annual publication and cumulative publication rates in this field are both on the rise. Among them, DENTAL MATERIALS is the journal with the highest publication rate, cumulative publication rate, and number of citations. Ozcan M is the author with the most publications and within the limitations of this study, is considered an influential author in the field (with the highest intermediary centrality score) and Meerbeek B is the author with the highest number of citations. UNIV SAO PAULO is the institution with the highest publication rate. The United States is the country with the highest publication rate and has the most collaborative partnerships with other countries. Collaboration between different authors, institutions, and countries in this field is indeed close, which has greatly contributed to the rapid development of dental adhesives. Current research focuses on various aspects such as the types of dental adhesives, adhesive strength, dental diseases, and clinical trials. Future research directions mainly concentrate on aspects such as nanoparticles, 3D printing, universal adhesives, antibacterial properties of adhesives, and adhesive strength.Conclusion: Within the defined scope of this study, we have conducted a quantitative and objective analysis of the current research status and emerging trends in dental adhesives. This analysis establishes a knowledge foundation and introduces novel perspectives for future in-depth investigations in this field.
