Greenhouse farming is an agricultural management system that has demonstrated its efficiency in intensifying food production. These systems constitute a feasible alternative for ensuring food supply, which is one of the greatest challenges faced by humankind in the twenty-first century. Technology has been able to meet the challenges related to greenhouse farming in both contributing to overcoming its limitations, correcting adverse impacts and ensuring system sustainability. The objective of this article is to analyse the global research trends in greenhouse technology over the last two decades, in order to identify the main driving agents, the most outstanding research lines and possible gaps in the literature. Different methodologies have been used for the analysis; both quantitative and qualitative. The principal results show that there are different relevant lines of research related to different aspects of greenhouse farming: the use of water for irrigation, the design of the optimum structure of the greenhouse, conserving the soil in the best growing conditions, energy consumption of the system as a whole, climate control within the facility and pest control. The research is characterized by the being composed largely of ad hoc studies, which hinders the international collaboration between researchers and institutions. The research approach has shifted from being focused on increasing production and cost savings to aspects related to resource conservation and sustainability.

Classics of infectious diseases: A bibliometric analysis of the 100 most cited articles

In our study, the 100 most cited publications in the field of “Infectious Diseases” in the WOS database were evaluated bibliometrically. “Web of Science” database “advanced mode” feature was used. A search was made in the field of “Infectious Diseases.” The top 100 most cited publications were determined. The total number of citations of the publications, the annual number of citations, the authors, the information of the study and the journal were analyzed. There were a total of 552,828 publications in the field of “Infectious Diseases” in the WOS between 1975 and 2023. The total citation average of the 100 most cited publications was 2246.02 ± 2165.35 and the annual citation average was 208.04 ± 215.00. The first 3 subjects in the first hundred articles were listed as antibiotic resistance (21%), coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (17%) and gram positive agents (10%). The first 3 journals in which the studies were published the most were determined as “Clinical Infectious Diseases” (33%), “Lancet Infectious Diseases” (20%), and “Emerging Infectious Diseases” (9%). A significant relationship was found between the subject of the study, the quarter (Q) category of the journal, the continent of authors and publisher, the funding status, the year of publication, the open access status and the number of citations per year (P < .0001). Our study is the first to analyze the top 100 most cited studies in the field of “Infectious Diseases” in the literature and their citation characteristics. Most of the most cited studies on the subject were on antibiotic resistance. The study subject, author, journal, publisher and publication access features, funding status and publication year affect the number of citations per year.

Agriculture is one of the most important industries in the world. In this context, the importance of Brazil as a strategic country to meet a range of SDG’s targets linked to food security, fighting against hunger, and poverty reduction is undeniable. This study aimed to highlight the production and dissemination of scientific research developed by Brazilian institutions, and to identify prominent authors and institutions based on articles related to sustainability, agriculture, livestock, and agribusiness. A bibliometric analysis was developed based on a sample of 3139 documents published between 2000 and 2022, comprising 21,380 authors that were then analyzed using the Biblioshiny package. As result, the term “sustainability” showed growth as it branched out to semantically similar terms, such as “sustainable agriculture” and “sustainable intensification”; and “crop–livestock integration” and “agroforestry” were highlighted as important in the development of future research. The majority of documents were produced by the University of São Paulo (~33%), the State University of São Paulo (~15%), and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (~11%), suggesting that their researchers could act as coordinators in future research through the formation of multi-collaborative groups to jointly lead to the participatory elaboration of public policies that promote more sustainable paths for agricultural production.
