Bibliometric mapping in the landscape of cybernetics: insights into global research networks

Ionut Nica

Abstract: PurposeThis bibliometric mapping study aimed to provide comprehensive insights into the global research landscape of cybernetics. Utilizing the biblioshiny function in R Studio, we conducted an analysis spanning 1958 to 2023, sourcing data from Scopus. This research focuses on key terms such as cybernetics, cybernetics systems, complex adaptive systems, viable system models (VSM), agent-based modeling, feedback loops and complexity systems.Design/methodology/approachThe analysis leveraged R Studio’s biblioshin… Show more

“…Scientific mapping, the process of visualizing and analyzing scientific literature, is complex and challenging due to the need to use various software tools and its multifaceted nature [12]. Bibliometric analysis is an essential method that is increasingly used in various research fields, such as analyzing the relationship between financial contagion and shadow banking [13], agentbased modeling and AI [14], cybernetics [15], social media [16], tourism [17], forecasting emerging technology [18], etc.…”

“…The "biblioshiny ()" function enables data extraction from multiple sources, including Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, and Dimensions [14,17,18]. Additionally, it offers the possibility to conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses supported by the ability to create graphical and interactive visualizations such as networks, diagrams, cluster analyses, and geographic maps [19].…”

“…Regarding the factor analysis we will perform, we will use multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) as the method. This method is used in bibliometric analysis to analyze and represent associations between different attributes [19]. In this study, it will be used to analyze the associations between the authors keywords.…”
