Bicycle Level of Service Model for the Cycloruta, Bogota, Colombia

Abstract: Segment videos were produced at different peaks to reflect different sampling criteria like land use characteristics, trails, Ciclocarrils and Ciclovia. Each segment was filmed for 20–40 seconds during bicycle rides at a speed of about 5km/h with a camera strapped, at an angle of 45 degrees, on the head. Curb lane variables such as bicycle pathway widths, curb lane motorised volume (veh/h) and vehicle speed (km/h), bicycle volume on segment, and median width were recorded in addition to secondary data. “…This issue is associated with the need for research assessing which assumptions can be adopted for e-bikes from those related to bicycle-pedestrians interactions. Research in respect to BLOS studies is mostly based on transport components, including segments [91,[167][168][169][170][171][172], nodes [63,[173][174][175] and networks [5,[176][177][178][179]. However, network-based BLOS studies compared to link and node studies require more extensive research [180][181][182][183][184].…”

“…Although the analysis procedure for arterials was updated in the sixth edition of the HCM [15] following the work from Dowling et al [45], two-lane and multilane highways methodologies remained unchanged in the subsequent HCM editions [15,16]. Other researchers and agencies adopted the US HCM-LOS concepts to their local conditions [8,12,[46][47][48][49], or validated the LOS approach with empirical image data [37,45,50], video and bicycle simulator data, [51] or with practitioner opinions [52].…”

“…Bicycle level of service (BLOS) was strongly influenced by side path separation (β=0.605, p<0.05); vehicle speed (β=0.717, p<0.05); motorized traffic volume (β=-0.381, p<0.05); and conflicts with pedestrians (β=1.173, p<0.05). Similarly, (Okon & Moreno, 2019) filmed segments for 20-40 seconds during bicycle rides at a speed of about 5km/h with a camera strapped, at an angle of 45 degrees, on the head, which was subsequently rated by respondents. Curb lane variables such as bicycle pathway widths, curb lane motorized volume (veh/h) and vehicle speed (km/h), bicycle volume on the segment, and median width was recorded in addition to secondary data.…”

“…It is an extension of ordinal least-squares regression that generalizes linear regression and thus allows the linear model to be related to the response or dependent variable (in our case the overall rating of segments/intersection). It is a multinomial probability distribution with cumulative logit as link function (Okon, et al, 2017;Okon & Moreno, 2019).…”
