Bifunctional Magnetic Luminescent Particles Based on Iron Oxide Nanoparticles Grafted with a Europium Silylated Bypiridine Tris(β‐diketonate) Complex

Abstract: A new highly magnetic-luminescent nanocomposites has been synthesized by grafting luminescent europium complex comprising tris(b-diketone) and bypridine ligand modified with a silylil function group (Eu[(TTA) 3 (Bpy-Si)] complex) on the surface of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with 11 nm in size coated with a thin silica outer layer. The g-Fe 2 O 3 /SiO 2 nanoparticles were fully characterized by ATR-FTIR, FE-SEM, HR-TEM and magnetic measurements to confirm the structure of nanocomposite and the s… Show more

“…Two years later, Sidney Ribeiro and his team chose to work with other SPIO NPs, Fe 2 O 3, for designing their bifunctional magnetic luminescent particles composed of [Eu(16)( 98)] complexes grafted on the surface of the silica shell of the NPs. 259 By comparison with the original complex, the luminescence lifetime decreased from 0.60 ms to 0.35 ms which might be due to some defects on the SPIO NPs, and the SM decreased from 60 emu.g -1 to 0.12 emu.g -1 . In 2019, Carlos Geraldes and his team proposed a system with maghemite covered by a silica shell and impregnated with [Eu(25) 3 ((H 2 O) 2 ], acting as a luminescent probe, 260 exhibiting enhancement of the quantum efficiency from 0.19 (free complex) to 0.37 for the NP.…”
