BIGDOSE: software for 3D personalized targeted radionuclide therapy dosimetry

Abstract: Background: Advance 3D quantitative radionuclide imaging techniques boost the accuracy of targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) dosimetry to voxel level. The goal of this work is to develop a comprehensive 3D dosimetric software, BIGDOSE, with new features of image registration and virtual CT for patientspecific dosimetry. Methods: BIGDOSE includes a portable graphical user interface written in Python, integrating (I) input of sequential ECT/CT images; (II) segmentation; (III) non-rigid image registration; (IV) c… Show more

“…PLANET→Dose calculates the absorbed dose at the voxel level and then rescales them at the organ level to provide the mean absorbed dose to the segmented organ. The software is not validated currently for clinical use to produce a fully 3D dosimetry, allowing the edition of absorbed dose-volume histograms and isodose curves (16,48).…”

“…In the clinic, many medical teams have developed their own methodology using the tools available in their department and according to their own organizational possibilities (9)(10)(11), and speci c dosimetry software and programs have been developed and implemented locally (12)(13)(14)(15)(16). Recently, commercial software tools have become available.…”

“…In fact, voxel-based dosimetry is still a matter of debate (14)(15)(16)33,(54)(55)(56)(57), as it relies not only on radiation transport and absorbed dose calculation (which can be addressed voxel-wise with current algorithms), but also on activity (and cumulated activity) determination at the voxel level, which is much more challenging. Yet software exist that propose voxel-based absorbed dose determination (27,57).…”

“…In the clinic, many medical teams have developed their own methodology using the tools available in their department and according to their own organizational possibilities (3)(4)(5). This has led to the local implementation of in-house developed dosimetry software and programs (6)(7)(8)(9)(10). However, the legislation on Medical Devices restricts their use to clinical trials.…”
