BIM applied in historical building documentation and refurbishing

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Historical building conservation raises two important issues which are documentation and refurbishing. For the recording and documentation, we already have developed 3d laser scanner and such photogrammetry technology those represent a freeze object of virtual reality by digital documentation. On the other hand, the refurbished engineering of historic building is a challenge for conservation heritage which are not only reconstructing the damage part but also restoring tangible cultural heritage. 3D di… Show more

“…Indeed, the ifcOWL is defined as a serialization of an IFC schema definition [11], in order to enable the use of contents semantically managed. For this reason, within INCEPTION, H-BIM is meant to be an ontology to support storage of semantic knowledge available for Cultural Heritage buildings and architectural complexes, as well as their related information [12]. The integration of Getty vocabularies and ifcOWL is a complex but feasible task, focusing on the actual queries, communications and current H-BIM work.…”

“…Likewise, software platforms -e.g. CAD and BIM systems-have enriched the depiction and analysis of architectural records (Letellier, 2007;Cheng et al, 2015;Biagini et al, 2016). From this perspective, once the project was commissioned by NCC, a strategy for documentation was planned.…”

“…According to Cheng et al (2015), among the most important generic processes of BIM is to "generate a parametric model that needed to convert the surface of constructed facilities to the desired model." Furthermore, designers can use it to explore alternative concepts, conduct value engineering and optimize their designs; while contractors can 'rehearse' construction and prepare shop and fabrication drawings (Cheng et al, 2015). In view of that, the BIM model aimed at keeping a record that does not only store building features' properties, but also can be a tool in the management of life cycle processes (Fai et al, 2011).…”
