Bimetallic complexes that merge metallocene and pincer-metal building blocks: synthesis, stereochemistry and catalytic reactivity

Abstract: This perspective is to illustrate the synthesis and applications of bimetallic complexes by merging a metallocene and a (cyclopentadienyl/aryl) pincer metal complex. Four possible ways to merge metallocene and pincer-metal...

“…The synthesis and applications of heterobimetallic complexes are an ever-present topic in inorganic chemistry. Of particular interest is the incorporation of ferrocene derivatives into other metal complex frameworks. Since the discovery of ferrocene and its formerly unprecedented sandwich-structure, , many ferrocene derivatives have been reported. Because of the manifold derivatization options of the ferrocene framework, there is a huge number of polymetallic complexes containing ferrocenes which are linked with different bridges (C; N; O; P; S; , Se; , N,O ,, ). In the context of ferrocene-based titanium complexes, several studies have focused on clusters, electron-deficient catalysts , and redox-active compounds. , Because the chemistry of bis(π–η 5 :σ–η 1 -pentafulvene)titanium complexes is characterized by a broad range of E–H activation and Ti–C functionalization reactions, they are excellent precursors for the generation of bimetallic Ti/Fe complexes. , As we reported earlier, both monofunctional and bifunctional transformations are possible depending on the substrate.…”

“…It can result from not only electronic interaction between Fe and Pd or co-doping but also steric interference and eventually coulombic effects between the two functional groups in these multi-metallic ferrocene/Schiff base-metal species. [46][47][48] The surface structure of the catalyst is also an important factor affecting the activity, 49 which can be endowed by modifying the surface of the catalyst, which can be modified by self-assembly (SAM), and the regular film surface can be fabricated as a platform, [50][51][52][53][54][55][56] on which the changes of active sites can be easily detected and the real active centre and function may be elucidated. [57][58][59][60][61][62] Previous studies on ligands, the molecular structure of the surface, metal combination, and carrier with the synergy between metals to develop the higher active catalysts have been our effort directions.…”
