Bio_Fabricated Levan Polymer from Bacillus subtilis MZ292983.1 with Antibacterial, Antibiofilm, and Burn Healing Properties

Abstract: The biopolymer levan has sparked a lot of interest in commercial production and various industrial applications. In this study, a bacterial isolate with promising levan-producing ability was isolated from a soil sample obtained from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Saudi Arabia. The isolate has been identified and submitted to GenBank as Bacillus subtilis MZ292983.1. The bacterial levan polymer was extracted using ethyl alcohol (75%) and CaCl2 (1%) and then characterized using several approaches,… Show more

“…These biosurfactans produced by B. subtilis and B. licheniformis are reported to have high surface activity beneficial for MEOR 35 , e.g., by reducing the surface and interfacial tension between oil and water 8 , 43 . Moreover, B. subtilis and B. licheniformis are known as producers of the levan biopolymer, which exhibits a stronger effect on permeability 44 . Effective permeability is also reduced due to the growth of bacteria biomass 45 , 46 .…”

“…The antibiofilm formation was explored following the protocol stated in the literature [ 33 , 34 ] with some modifications. Briefly, different concentrations of the extracted HD EOs (0–50 µL/mL) or SFC EOs (0–13.7 mg/mL) were added to a 96-well polystyrene plate followed by the addition of 100 μL microbial suspension (1 × 10 5 CFU/mL).…”
