“…Although the mechanism of lipid profile improvement is not clearly understood from the current study, this may be because of possible cholesterol-lowering mechanisms of tocopherols, such as inhibition of cholesterol oxidation (Xu et al 2001) and reduced HMG-CoA-reductase activity (Ha et al 2005). Furthermore, Martin et al (2001) and Torra et al (2001) hypothesized that the cholesterol-lowering mechanism of black cumin fixed oil is dependent on peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPARα) activation.…”

“…Cho et al (2007) reported that feeding with high cholesterol resulted in a significant increase in epididymal fat pad during 5 weeks. However, Ha & Han (2005) found that there was no significant difference in epididymal fat pad weights between the normal group and high cholesterol-fed group. Our results indicated that feeding ETC to rats apparently decreased the adipose tissue weight gains in early feeding time periods; however the effects did not continue after 2 weeks.…”

“…The high antioxidant activity of RBO is due to the presence of gamma oryzanol which has ferulic acid like structure [8]. Oryzanol curbs the cancer causing free radicals thereby reducing cancer risk.…”
