Bioactive Compounds and Antioxidant Activity in Leaves of Endemic and Native Isatis spp in Turkey

Abstract: This study was undertaken to evaluate the health-promoting potentials of Isatis aucherii, Isatis buschiana, Isatis candolleana, Isatis tinctoria subsp. corymbosa and Isatis tinctoria. I. aucherii and I. candolleana are endemic, I. buschiana, I. tinctoria subsp. corymbosa are native in Turkey. While I. tinctoria is a well studied species, there is insufficient information about other endemic and native species. Therefore, this study is focused to reveal the bioactive compounds of poorly studied endemic and nati… Show more

“…Leaf extracts of A. rusticana showed TPC of 1235-2705 mg GAE/100 g DW during vegetation (Tomsone and Kruma, 2017). For Bunias orientalis ethanol extracts, this parameter was 52.88 mg GAE/g DW, which was determined at the flowering stage (Comlekcioglu, 2019;Vergun et al, 2018). The TPC was determined for five species of Isatis as being between 8.90 and 19.16 mg GAE/g.…”

“…In addition, sulfonated indole GSL was reported in Isatis spp. [ 24 ], indicating a sulfonation process, although the biosynthesis pathway has not been fully described. Moreover, R-hydroxylation (RHO) and S-hydroxylation (SHO) were reported to chirally hydrosylate 2-phenylethyl GSL in Barbarea vulgaris , which affected the structure of aromatic GSLs [ 25 ].…”
