Biochars Originating from Different Biomass and Pyrolysis Process Reveal to Have Different Microbial Characterization: Implications for Practice

Abstract: Sustainable technologies are increasingly promoted in various production areas. Protection of natural resources, as well as rational waste management, may lead to better optimization of technologies. Biochar, a product of pyrolysis of organic residues has found wide applications in waste management, agriculture, energy and construction industry. In the present study biochar samples produced in Poland and in Brazil were analysed for microbial content using three substrates: Plate Count Agar, Malt Agar, and Pota… Show more

“…The spore structures can, however, remain viable. Some fungi, especially the genera A. flavus and A. niger , grow very well on highly salinated surfaces, which is a secondary effect of a long-term or strong exposure to moisture [ 2 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 14 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 35 , 39 , 40 , 41 , 42 ].…”

“…The commercially available biochar (Fluid S.A. Poland) used in this study was obtained in an innovative process of autothermal thermolysis of miscanthus biomass at 300 • C in an anaerobic atmosphere. The biochar used in this experiment was also used in studies by other authors [118,119]. The characteristics of the biochar were compiled on the basis of information provided by Ścisłowska et al [119] (Table S2).…”
