Bioengineering Silicon Quantum Dot Theranostics using a Network Analysis of Metabolomic and Proteomic Data in Cardiac Ischemia

Abstract: Metabolomic profiling is ideally suited for the analysis of cardiac metabolism in healthy and diseased states. Here, we show that systematic discovery of biomarkers of ischemic preconditioning using metabolomics can be translated to potential nanotheranostics. Thirty-three patients underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) after myocardial infarction. Blood was sampled from catheters in the coronary sinus, aorta and femoral vein before coronary occlusion and 20 minutes after one minute of coronary occ… Show more

“…It failed to alter O 2 consumption driven by substrates specific for complex II, further suggesting that its inhibition of RET-mediated ROS production was not due to the decrease in succinate accumulation and oxidation. Many omics technologies, such as proteomics and metabolomics, have been employed to identify potential therapeutic targets for ischemic heart diseases 42 , 43 . In the present study, proteomics results implied that ginsenoside Rb1 probably protected the heart from I/R injury by regulating complex I activity.…”

“…[150] However, due to the presence of heavy metals, M-QDs are largely associated with long-term toxicity and environmental concerns including aggregation that is regularly detected upon storage. [151] Also, the multistep complex process is required to obtain M-QDs. [152,153] The strong fluorescence imaging property in the NIR-II region can be used for labelling with organic dyes that can also serve as a T2-contrast agent for multimodal applications.…”
