Biogenic Silver Nanoparticles from Iris tuberosa as Potential Preservative in Cosmetic Products

Abstract: Biogenic-silver nanoparticles emerge as new nanosilver platforms that allow us to obtain silver nanoparticles via “green chemistry”. In our study, biogenic-silver nanoparticles were obtained from Iris tuberosa leaf extract. Nanoparticles were characterized by a UV-vis spectroscopy, dynamical light scattering technique. The transmission electron microscope revealed spheric and irregular nanoparticles with 5 to 50 nm in diameter. Antimicrobial properties were evaluated against typical microbial contaminants foun… Show more

“…More recently, the usefulness of Cannabis sativa leaf extracts to mediate the green synthesis of AgNPs and their antibacterial activity against several human pathogens ( Escherichia coli , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Pseudomonas fluorescens , and Staphylococcus aureus ) have been proven [ 26 ]. An interesting application of plant-mediated AgNPs was demonstrated by Mondéjar-López et al [ 27 ]. The authors obtained AgNPs by the use of Iris tuberosa leaf extract.…”

“…These results confirm the preservative activity of NPCH-TQ in formulated creams. Other works with biogenic silver nanoparticles from Iris tuberosa aqueous extract confirm the role of nanotechnology to be used as a platform to obtain new preservative agents [5].…”

“…This delocalization also causes an intensification in the purplish color characteristic of the radical, which in an ethanolic medium absorbs at 515 nm. This purplish coloration of the solution is attenuated in the presence of an antioxidant that can donate or transfer a hydrogen atom, giving a yellowish color due to the reduced form of DPHP-H [5]. Figure 3 presents the % of DPPH scavenging of free TQ, NPCH and NPCH-TQ on the range of concentrations between 0.125 and 1 of tested material.…”
