Biological activities and DNA interactions of aqueous extract of Phlomis linearis (Boiss. & Bal.)

Abstract: Phlomis linearis Boiss. & Bal. of the Lamiaceae family is one of the endemic species in Turkey, i.e., growing in the east, central, and southeast parts of Anatolia and used for herbal tea. This study was designed to identify the biochemical and bioactivity properties of this endemic species by DPPH scavenging activity, metal chelating activity, total phenolic content, HPLC-DAD analysis, and MTT assay. Furthermore, the plant extract was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi by usin… Show more

“…While there are a lot of in-silico molecular docking systems, the Maestro Schrödinger 2021-3 platform demonstrated superior efficiency for our calculations as the computational tool for molecular docking, Maestro Schrödinger, showcased remarkable precision and accelerated performance, thereby enhancing the accuracy and speed of our analyses [ 77 ]. Additionally, it should not be overlooked that it has proven to be reliable in numerous studies and our research [ 78 ]. In the initial phase, our focus was on ensuring the reliability of the docking procedure and validating the software employed.…”

“…DNA damage inhibition potential of MRE and WRE of R. canina was evaluated using plasmid DNA. Oxidative damage to plasmid DNA was induced using hydroxyl (•OH) radical generated from the ultraviolet (UV)/H 2 O 2 -radical system as described (24). A reaction mixture containing 20 μL of plant extract of different concentrations (25-50 μg/mL), pBR322 DNA (0.25 μg), and 20 μL Fenton's reagent (30 mmol/L H 2 O 2 , 500 μmol/ L-ascorbic acid and 800 μmol /L FeCl3 was incubated for 40 min at 37°C and analyzed on a 1% agarose gel by staining with ethidium bromide.…”
