Biological properties of nutshell and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) filled high density polyethylene composites

Abstract: Purpose: The composites based on natural fibre and wood can be destroyed by fungi attack, even the lignocellulosic materials were used as filler in hydrophobic thermoplastic matrix. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) and nutshell fibre content on decay resistance of natural fibre composites. Design/methodology/approach: Half of the composite samples were immersed in water for 60 days and then incubated by fungi to investigate the leaching effect on biologica… Show more

“…The composite of MCC and cementitious improved the cementitious by 19.2% with 1% of MCC addition [ 117 ]. Using nutshell with MCC to fill high-density polyethylene also made remarkable improvements in the flexural strength of the high-density polyethylene [ 118 ]. In the composite of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC), the addition of NCC improved the flexural strength to around 3 MPa [ 119 ].…”

“…Moreover, there are studies conducted with hazelnut and polypropylene, hazelnut and high density polyethylene. In order to define the mechanical properties of the obtained composites, tests such as shock test, tensile and bending test, water absorption test were performed and the usability of the composite material formed with this material was investigated [17][18][19][20]. Walnut is an agricultural waste material produced all over the world.…”
