Biomethane: The energy storage, platform chemical and greenhouse gas mitigation target

Abstract: Results in three areas of anaerobic microbiology in which methane formation and utilization plays central part are reviewed. a.) Bio-methane formation by reduction of carbon dioxide in the power-to-gas process and the various possibilities of improvement of the process is a very intensively studied topic recently. From the numerous potential methods of exploiting methane of biological origin two aspects are discussed in detail. b.) Methane can serve as a platform chemical in various chemical and biochemical sy… Show more

“…The equilibrium between H 2 producers and consumers is crucial in methanogenesis (Wirth et al, 2012;Szuhaj et al, 2016;Bagi et al, 2017). The relative numbers of identified hydrogenase genes were nearly equal in the three reactors ( Figure 7D) (Supplementary Table 3, purple color).…”

“…On the other hand, solid digestate fertilizes and improves agricultural soil structures, while reducing the risk of agro-chemical pollution of surface and groundwater [13]. It is also transformed into compost after maturation or used as a substrate for the production of lombricompost and fungus.…”
