Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using pennyroyal water extract as a green route

Abstract: Synthesis of silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) using water extract of pennyroyal is carried out successfully at ambient temperature. The obtained Ag NPs were characterized, using different methods including ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). TEM study showed that mean diameter and standard deviation for the formation of silver nanoparticles were 19.14 ± 9.791 nm.

“…AgNPs can be synthesized using physical or chemical methods such as ultrasonic fields, ultraviolet and microwave radiation, photochemical reduction, and also photochemical and sonoelectrochemical methods. However, the use of toxic chemicals as reducing agents in many of these processes, which is potentially dangerous to the environment and biological systems, is of great concern (5,6). Compared with other methods, biological methods using microorganisms (7,8), enzymes (9), and plants or plant extracts like Nothapodytes nimmoniana (Graham) Mabb.…”

“…For example, the green synthesis of Ag-NPs by using pennyroyal water extract were reported. 11 In another study, AgNPs were synthesized by utilizing various monosaccharides as reductant; with employing the household microwave method described earlier. 12 The biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using fruit extract of Malus Domestica was furthermore reported and the average particle size was found to be 20 nm.…”
