Biosynthesis of ZnO Nanoparticles Using Pumpkin Peel Extract (Cucurbita moschata) and its Applications as Semiconductor in Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC)

Abstract: ZnO nanoparticles are semiconductor materials that can be used in Dye Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC). ZnO nanoparticles can be synthesized using pumpkin peel extract (Cucurbita moschata) which functions as a reducing agent, stabilizer, and capping agent. Zn(CH3COO)2.2H2O precursor was used with a concentration of 0.15 M at various pH 7, 8, and 9 reacted with pumpkin peel extract. The functional groups of pumpkin peel extract were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), the samples we… Show more

“…The peak observed at 1630 cm À 1 likely corresponds to a vibrational (C=O stretch) mode. [15] The bioreduction and interactions of SeNPs with SqM are designated from the variation between the spectrum of plain SqM (Figure 2-SqM) and after conjugation with SeNPs (Figure 2-SqM/SeNPs). Numerous bands were emerged or appeared with higher intensity (marked with blue highlighted zones), e. g. within 1000-1060 cm À 1 ,1250-2000 cm À 1 , and 3485-3920 cm À 1 ranges, which indicate the formation of novel bonds between SeNPs and SqM biomolecules during nanoparticles' synthesis.…”

“…While it may not be considered a traditional antibacterial agent like antibiotics, butternut squash does contain several compounds and components that can have antibacterial properties and contribute to overall health. [15] Marine biopolymers represent a fascinating and ecologically significant class of natural compounds derived from marine organisms. These biopolymers, which include substances like chitin, chitosan, and carrageenan, are essential structural components found in the tissues of various marine organisms, such as algae, crustaceans, and mollusks.…”

“…Agglomeration of ZnO nanoparticles occurred due to the influence of polarity, ZnO electrostatic power, and enormous energy on the surface of nanoparticles during the synthesis process 13,24,25 . Besides that, agglomeration is thought to happen because many chemical compounds in avocado seed extract react with other molecules 14,26 . In addition, agglomeration can be caused by a dispersion process during measurement, and no screening process is carried out first.…”
