Biotechnological Methods for the Improvement Cereals

Abstract: Cereals are important for feed of human and animals because of they are valuable. Crop or cereal agriculture and importance of it has been improving worldwide. At the same time crops have taken place in biotechnology. In the world maize has been cultivated much after wheat, rice and barley. Biotechnological methods have reduced the time and cost for improve of plants. On the other hand it has increased the strength of programmes of improvement. In this study for cereal improvement; such as maize, wheat and ric… Show more

“…Maize is one of the basic cereal crops due to its multiple uses in the field of human and animal nutrition, as it comes after wheat and rice in terms of area and production [1] The economic importance of the Maize crop can be attributed to the fact that its grains contain high percentages of carbohydrates (81%), protein (10.6%), oil (4.6%), and ash (2%), as well as vitamins B1, B2, and E [2,3] However, farmers in Iraq suffer from a decline in Maize productivity compared to other countries of the world, as it is 40% lower than in developed countries. This decline comes from the lack of screening of good genetic compositions, in addition to the lack of interest in spraying nutrients.…”

“…Zea mays L. belongs to the Poaceae family, and it is one of the important grain crops that is widely cultivated all over the world [1]. It is considered one of the strategic crops, as it comes second after wheat in terms of the cultivated area, and it comes in the first place in the rate of grain produced for use in human and animal nutrition, as well as in various industrial fields [2]. Due to the high yield rate and fodder value of grains, stems and leaves, they are desirable and of great importance in many countries [3].…”
