Blending agile methodologies to support automotive SPICE compliance

Abstract: Currently, agile methodologies are widely used as a light-weight development process model based on short development cycles, which can satisfy frequent change requests from customers and stakeholders, and reach an efficient product delivery. On the other hand, most suppliers in the automotive industry are currently facing a challenge to comply to automotive SPICE (ASPICE) standard, which is a domainspecific model of ISO/IEC 15504. Moreover, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) have increasingly requested AS… Show more

“…On the one hand, the evolution of software development methodologies in the automotive industry has been driven by increasing complexity and the need to meet quality, safety, and efficiency requirements. It has transitioned from traditional waterfall to more agile approaches like Automotive SPICE [12]. However, as this standard predates the software boom in automotive systems, it lacks modern software dynamism and has high hardware-software coupling, complicating innovation.…”

“…The BPs can be achieved either through traditional development methodologies, such as strictly applied V-model development methodology, or more recent and commonly applied agile methodologies (Diebold et al, 2017). Often hybrid development methodologies are used, which consist of short V-cycle based timelines in which agile methodologies are applied (Noureldin et al, 2022).…”
