Blockchain-based smart dairy supply chain: catching the momentum for digital transformation

Abstract: PurposeThis research attempted to establish the underlying dimensions of supply chain management practices, blockchain technology and supply chain performance in the Indian dairy industry. Additionally, the study proposes a conceptual model that shows the mediating effects of blockchain technology in the relationship between supply chain management practices and supply chain performance.Design/methodology/approachStructural equation modelling (SEM) is incorporated to examine the proposed model using SPSS and A… Show more

“…The industry should further be re-envisioned to promote the production of healthy dairy products within environmental limits, while also enhancing peoples' livelihoods, reducing pressure on young people to migrate, and achieving sustainable goals [43,[56][57][58]. This can be through transformation of policy and practice that is grounded in systems thinking, supported by synthesis of research and underpinned by conceivable scenarios to assess trade-offs and policy options [59][60][61]. Facilitating research activities to determine the most effective policy options and management practices is seen from three aspects, namely the value-added aspect, the effectiveness aspect of waste absorption, and the market opportunity aspect [62,63].…”

“…Supply chain management resources could be substantially supported by blockchain in agricultural context ( Singh and Singh, 2020 ; Ordóñez et al, 2023 ). Promising results on Indian diary supply chain management were reported in a study where authors investigated the role of blockchain, distribution, and inventory management ( Kumar and Kumar, 2023 ). Likewise, a Midwestern United States of America (USA) based company employed blockchain technology to enhance the production and supply chain of eggs, tracking their journey from farm to consumer tables ( Bumblauskas et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Interestingly, while the study found blockchain's adoption in the UAE to be nascent, the potential of blockchain to facilitate sustainable practices, especially in the energy sector, is evident. The Indian dairy industry, as explored in Kumar and Kumar [123], showcases a concrete example of how blockchain can transform a specific industry. It was observed that blockchain technology mediates the relationship between SCM practices and supply chain performance, suggesting blockchain's transformative potential.…”
